ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP
The East Fork San Jacinto River Watershed Partnership consists of stakeholders in the East Fork San Jacinto River Watershed. The watershed area covers portions of Walker, San Jacinto, Montgomery, Liberty, and Harris counties in the state of Texas, as well as a large portion of the Sam Houston National Forest. We are local governments, residents, businesses, agricultural producers, community groups, and other local interests working together to find voluntary, feasible solutions to address water quality challenges based on sound science and community insights.
High levels of fecal waste threaten the quality of water in the East Fork of the San Jacinto River and its tributaries. This pollution can potentially endanger public health, recreation, local economies, and the environment of our communities in this area. As the East Fork of the San Jacinto River ultimately drains into Lake Houston--an important source of drinking water for the region--addressing this issue is a priority. We invite you to learn more and participate!
The Partnership is supported and facilitated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the lead state environmental agency, and the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), the regional Council of Governments for the 13-county area that includes the East Fork San Jacinto River Watershed. As part of a Clean Water Act 319(h) grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), TCEQ and H-GAC will provide technical information and assist local stakeholders in developing a watershed protection plan to address water quality issues in the East Fork of the San Jacinto River.
